Estate Planning is a commonly used term but is often misunderstood. It would be better described as Family and Legacy Planning. Everyone needs an estate plan. Younger generations starting families must put into writing their decisions regarding who will act as guardian for their minor children should both parents pass; otherwise that decision is determined by the State. Those in the baby boomer generation, who have worked throughout their lifetimes to amass assets, may wish to establish an endowment for gifting or a trust for asset protection purposes. Again a proper plan is necessary to achieve those goals. Although everyone realizes that planning is necessary, the majority of us do not take the time to put a plan in place. Now is the time to act.
